Long Mane vs. Short Mane?

I will have a riding update tomorrow! For now, which do you like better:

Short Mane:
Means hunter braids for shows or I could leave it down and not braid at all.

Long mane:
I can do running braids for shows, gives me a handle when I ride bareback but it gets in the way sometimes and gets caught underneath the saddle pad.

Your opinions?

  1. If you're planning to show and do things (where getting tangled in mane is inconvenient and sometimes ribbon-altering ;-)... I say go with the short.

If you like bareback and the trails, let it grow. I do think most light horses look nicer in hunter braids than a running or Vienna braid. Unless you have a really heavy horse or one with a heavy neck, or unless the breed standard requires natural mane, I think short hunter or dressage braids (or just the pulled mane look) are most professional.
